Cyber Crime across the UK

The University of Birmingham has collaborated with Avast, to create an index outlining which UK region has been hit the hardest by cybercrime?

According to the Index, London and Wales are the regions most affected by cyber crime. As outlined by the University of Birmingham this is partly because of the perception Vs reality gap in cyber crime.

Those living in the West Midlands, London, Wales, Scotland, South West and Northern Ireland appear to underestimate the threat, with their levels of perception much lower than actual rates of cyber crime.

By contrast, those in the South East, North West, East Midlands, North West and Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, overestimated the threat in comparison to their levels of victimisation.

Contributing factors for some people in the groups most affected by cyber crime, was the unwillingness to report certain cyber incidents or the lack of understanding about how to do so.

It is clear that more needs to be done to raise awareness about cyber crime and how to report it. Visit our recent blog here to read more.
