Data breaches across the UK cost less than the global average, despite security budgets being a lot smaller on average, according to a recent article published by CSO online ‘UK cybersecurity statistics you need to know’.
However, the article also highlights that a staggering 88% of UK companies have suffered breaches in the last 12 months.
According to Hiscox, one small business in the UK is successfully hacked every 19 seconds. The most common cyber-attacks involve phishing in the UK.
Phishing is untargeted mass emails sent to many people asking for sensitive information (i.e., bank details), or encouraging recipients to visit a fake website.
The CSO Online article also cites that 22% of organisations in the UK do not provide their employees with regular security awareness training, with 31% having not carried out a cyber risk assessment in the last 12 months.
Employees can often be an organisation’s biggest weakness in cyber-attacks, so ensuring adequate training is key.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, 66% of UK organisations say their security budgets has risen in the last year. Indeed, investing in cyber security pre-emptive measures is an essential foundation for all businesses operating in today’s world.
