Are you doing what you need to protect yourself from cyber criminals? The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) have shared their six top tips to help us all be more cyber aware this year.
Their guidance includes these points:
1. Create a separate email password
2. Create strong passwords using three random words
3. Save passwords in your browser
4. Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)
5. Update your devices
6. Turn on backup
You can view or download the entire guide on the NCSC’s website at www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberaware/home
How many of these actions have you taken?
Whether for work or personal, spending a couple of minutes to consider these points could save you money, time, and stress.
Cyber criminals rarely prey on specific individuals. Instead, they tend to automate their attacks. That means that everyone and anyone could find themselves the victim of a crime.
The best way to protect yourself is to follow the guidance above.
If you’d like more information on creating a strong password, see our NEBRC cyber security guides at www.nebrcentre.co.uk/cyber-security-guides . We also share best practice for updating your devices and keeping your mobile safe.
If you’re not sure what a term like two-factor authentication means, you can view our glossary www.nebrcentre.co.uk/ncsc-glossary
