Three things to remember when developing a cyber security strategy

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

As the world around us evolves, so too should our security planning. Here are three key things to think about when developing a security strategy for your organisation:

· Understand the threat landscape

and specifically the types of cyber attack most likely to target your organisation, most often and most severely i.e., malware, phishing, insider threats etc. Take a look at some of your competitors, what sort of threats have they faced?

· Assess the strength of your current cyber security

use a cyber security framework to assess where your organisation should be, within a timeframe, in terms of cyber security.

· Determine how you need to improve your current cyber security

once you’re clear on where you are and where you would like to be, the next step is to adopt the tools and practices to reach your desired outcome. Consider that every improvement will consume resources whether this is money, staff, time etc. With this in mind, it may be more effective to outsource some of your security tasks.
