Three ways you can protect your personal data

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

Any form of Personal Identifiable Information (PII), to include name, address, phone numbers, date of birth, social security number, IP address, location details and any other digital or physical personal data, can be used by a cyber criminal to identify, locate, and mirror an individual. Here are three ways you can help to protect your personal data:

· Don’t use public Wi-Fi

unless you are using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) do not use a public Wi-Fi. Using a VPN means that the traffic between your device and the VPN server is encrypted.

· Securely use your mobile device

mobile devices are a target for more than 1.5million new incidents of mobile malware, according to McAfee. Help guard against this by creating a difficult passcode; only install apps from trusted sources; keep your device updated; avoid sending sensitive information online and perform regular backups.

· Be wary of Phishing Scams

be extra careful when receiving emails, phone calls, and flyers. Simply don’t open an email from someone you don’t know and always be dubious of any links.
