Manufacturing Industry Reports the Most Cyber Attacks Globally Compared to Other Leading Industries

The global manufacturing industry has seen the highest share of cyber attacks across other leading industries worldwide taking up nearly a quarter of total attacks across 2023, according to the latest research by Statista. Finance and insurance followed with 18%, and professional, business and consumer services coming in third at 15.4% of reported cyber attacks.

Research showed that UK manufacturers face a wide range of cyber security risks, including simple employee error and larger-scale targeted attacks from an external threat actor.

65% of cyber attacks were targeted production stoppages, and reputational damage was the second-most-common attack (43%).

Potential new clients are now seeking assurance that a strong cyber security strategy is in place before signing contracts. Good cyber security practices include training staff, having a reliable data backup, and keeping security software up to date.
