NEBRC NAMED CYBER POLICING TEAM OF THE YEAR AT 2022 NATIONAL CYBER AWARDS

The North East Business Resilience Centre, established in 2019 by a police-led team collaborating across seven NE forces to help protect and support businesses from cyber crimeand online fraud, has been named the Police Team of the Year at the 2022 National Cyber Awards

Now operating as part of a national network, thus allowing best practice to be shared, the NEBRC provides services to businesses delivered by talented university under graduates, in partnership with those at the forefront of evolving technology in our region, to help minimise the risk posed by cyber criminals. 

Commenting on the award win, NEBRC Director and South Yorkshire Police Superintendent,Rebecca Chapman, said: “The NEBRC offers a unique bond between police, business and academia to provide affordable cyber security support to businesses of any size, and from any sector, across our region but particularly those small and medium enterprises that might struggle to grasp cyber security issues or not be able to afford them.

“Our unique approach gives us exclusive access to the latest information on legislation, criminal trends, threats, and new technology allowing us to provide the very best advice to safeguard staff, customers, and businesses.

“Today, with so many of us reliant on advanced technological systems in the work that we do we are all only too aware of the threat cyber security can pose. 

“As a team, the NEBRC was established and work to protect people, places and processes, offering members effective and affordable solutions when assessing the risk factors from online threats. 

“To date we have supported scores of businesses from numerous sectors across our region to better understand and manage their cyber security needs. We are very proud of our current legacy and absolutely delighted to have been recognised in this year’s National Cyber Awards as we continue to build and develop our work in the years to come.”

Rebecca Chapman has also been shortlisted for the North East Chamber’s Inspiring Female Awards Business Leader of the Year category, which will be announced in November and received ‘Highly Commended’ at the National Cyber Awards 2022 for Cyber Citizen of the year and Cyber Individual of the Year. 

The NEBRC has also been shortlisted for three awards as the forthcoming Dynamites, the North East’s IT and Technology Awards for in the Project of the Year: incident response helpline;

Rising Star: Joe Cockcroft and Tech Champion: Martin Wilson categories. These awards will be announced later in the month.
