Natalie joined South Yorkshire Police as the Cyber Protect and Prevent Officer in August 2022, working within the Digital Investigations and Intelligence Unit.

Her role involves delivering cybercrime protection advice to individuals, communities, organisations and businesses across South Yorkshire in order to raise the awareness of the ever-changing threats that exist online and how people can limit their chances of falling victim. This is achieved via different methods, which can include presentations, webinars, social media posts and stalls/events within the community.

Delivering interventions with these individuals in order to education them around the ways in which they can use their cyber skills for the better.

Natalie has always lived in the South Yorkshire area and has a keen interest in helping people, which stems from a strong background within customer service.

Sarah Bullock

Cyber Protect Officer, North Yorkshire Police

North Yorkshire Polices Cybercrime Unit primarily deal with Computer Misuse Act (CMA) offences, as well as CMA-linked crime where hacking may not be the primary offence or objective of criminal activity but known or suspected to be part of the criminal activity.  The Cybercrime Unit roles are broken down as follows:

Pursue – The investigation arm of the team undertaking CMA investigations.

Protect – The “Protect” agenda is about helping the public, including, individuals, groups, businesses, and charities to improve their cybersecurity to stop them becoming the victims of cybercrime. This is achieved by increasing public awareness of cybercrime and providing general advice and tailored advice where a need is identified. The team provide presentations and interactive training events.

Prevent -The prevent role utilises The Cyber Choices Programme. This programme involves dealing with individual referrals. Referrals are made when a person is identified as having exceptional abilities on a computer, and there are concerns that they may misuse these skills, those on the cusp of cyber offending. Through the prevent referral pathway, interaction can be made with individuals, diverting them towards legal pathways, in which they can focus their skills. This involves educating those individuals around the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and the consequences of finding themselves of the wrong side of the law!
