Heading into 2023, you can expect to see the UK’s digital landscape shift as new rules come into force regarding cyber security, online content, and personal data.
Offering online protection to children through policing the digital world, this bill aims to hold social media accountable for harmful material whilst protecting freedom of speech.
2) The Digital Protection and Digital Information Bill
Following the UK’s exit from the EU, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport’s (DCMS) responded by developing a new bill to reform data protection, which doesn’t stray too far from GDPR policy.
UK organisations will be required to comply with such regulation, which will offer greater clarity on data protection and reduce burdens for businesses by expanding cookie categories that are processed and removing restrictions on the use of automated decision-making.
3) Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022
Part of the bill includes the creation of a regulatory scheme to enhance security from cyber threats that target connected products and smart devices. This includes any product that can connect to the internet, such as smart home assistants, connected appliances, and smart watches.
Manufacturers and developers will be required to meet a high standard of protection and investigate threats.
