Watch Out! Almost 40% of SMEs Have No Cyber Security Training

A recent survey by BT and Be the Business has revealed potential shortcomings in UK SMEs: 39% of small and medium-sized businesses have not conducted any cybersecurity training for their staff.

The report further highlights that phishing remains the number one threat, with email scams affecting 85% of UK businesses. These attacks are not only disruptive, but they’re also expensive and for micro and small businesses, the average cost of a cyber breach is £7,960.

Why Training Matters

Cybersecurity training is one critical pillar of defending against phishing emails. Assume your technical controls have failed, and a malicious email has reached one of your users – their ability to identify the email as malicious and take appropriate action can make a huge difference.
